About Vermont
About the State:
What is it about the State that draws you to it? Is it the allure of its
many mountains, the crystal clear waters, more dirt roads than concrete or
macadam, more animals than people? Perhaps it is a combination of all of
these.
The State is filled with green mountains in the summer that turn bright
orange and red in the fall, only to turn snow white in the winter. Hiking
during the summer is a favorite pastime, as is leaf peeping in the fall,
and of course its' main attraction of skiing and snowshoeing in the winter
all add up to just a wonderful place to be year round.
Lake Champlain is known as the sixth Great Lake and such a wonderful body
of water it is. You can literally travel by boat from the interior of
Vermont up to the Canadian border where you connect to the St. Lawrence
river. From there you can turn left and go into the Great Lakes all the
way to the middle of the country, or you can turn right and go to the
ocean and the world beyond! Such freedom indicates the nature of the
State. There are also smaller lakes like Lake Bomoseen or Lake St.
Catherine and of course hundreds of smaller ponds just waiting for you to
enjoy. About our local area:
Every local area of the State has its own unique distinctions, and ours is
no exception.
Southern Vermont, and particularly the Manchester area, are blessed with
many opportunities to keep one busy having fun both indoors and out.
The Bennington Museum and the Bennington Battlefield are a must see for the
history buffs, along with Hildene in Manchester which was built by Robert
Todd Lincoln. son of our President Abraham. The Friends of Hildene now offer tours
of the old mansion daily. They even have on display one of Abe's top
hats.
The Southern Vermont Art Center offers wonderful displays of artistry by
both past and present artists, and live performances by a variety of
entertainers. The Civic Center offers the perfect compliment to the
Art Center. From skating at the indoor rink, to live performances
under the stars by the Vermont Symphony and many others, both are a must see
while visiting.
If its Broadway type performances you are interested in, you must make a
stop at the very intimate Dorset Theater or the modern newer Old Castle
Theater in Bennington.
Of course, we must not forget the outdoor activities which we have plenty
of. Three of the most challenging golf courses set against the
backdrop of the mountains will prove unforgettable. The mountains
offer hiking and skiing for all levels, and of course the Olympic gold medal
holder in snowboarding is from this area!
The Manchester school system is in a class by itself. From old
traditional buildings to state of the art electronics center, the school
offers its students the ultimate in education.
These are but a few of the many activities that make our area so sought
after. We welcome you to come and see for yourself.
